About two decades ago I heard a speech by David Dinkins (then Mayor of New York City) in which he referred to the people of New York as a gorgeous mosaic. He was describing the diversity of ethnic and racial groups that make up that city. He was also sharing a dream that those many people groups and cultures could be gathered together without losing their unique identities to form a “gorgeous” mosaic.
As I thought about that description I felt an overwhelming sense that the whole world and not just NYC was God’s gorgeous mosaic. God’s kingdom design is a mosaic of many different people drawn together through a relationship with God and each other. At that moment it became my dream and desire to be a part God’s purpose in gathering that gorgeous mosaic kingdom of God’s people.
After this I saw a vast crowd, too great to count, from every nation and tribe and people and language, standing in front of the throne and before the Lamb…. And they were shouting with a mighty shout, “Salvation comes from our God on the throne and from the Lamb!” Revelation 7:9-10Revelation 7:9-10

People from Every Nation
9 After this, I saw a large crowd with more people than could be counted. They were from every race, tribe, nation, and language, and they stood before the throne and before the Lamb. They wore white robes and held palm branches in their hands,
10 as they shouted,
“Our God, who sits
upon the throne,
has the power
to save his people,
and so does the Lamb.”

In April of 2003, three couples and my family gathered in our home to talk about the possibility of starting a new church. That group was later joined by two other couples and eventually started meeting on Sunday evening for small group worship, prayer and growing spiritually together. In February of 2004 we had our first preview worship at the Wealthy Theater. Then in April a second evening preview worship was held at the theater. In July of 2004 a we began meeting weekly at Sigsbee school. On November 7th 2004 Mosaic Life Church was officially launched.
In 2009 we celebrate our fifth birthday and look forward even more to what God is going to do in our midst as God fits the pieces of his gorgeous mosaic together.
